Pi Lambda Phi

There is no better way to describe our Fraternity as a whole than as seen on our International Headquarter's (IHQ) website.

Below is an excerpt from them:

"Founded at Yale University in 1895, Pi Lambda Phi was the first non-sectarian fraternity in the United States, accepting men of good character without regard to race or religion. The leaders of this group were three gentlemen, Frederick Manfred Werner, Louis Samter Levy and Henry Mark Fisher-our Founding Fathers. Werner, Levy and Fisher had a vision of a fraternity where neither sect nor creed shall ever act as a bar to admission for any man.

Today, Pi Lambda Phi chapters at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada cultivate communities that promote academics, leadership, social skills, and lifelong fraternal bonds. Pi Lambda Phi men build skills that will help them succeed in their post-graduate endeavors in an environment free from hazing and drug and alcohol abuse."

Local History - Kappa Chi Kappa (KXK)

Kappa Chi Kappa was officially established with the signing of the Preamble of the Constitution of October 11, 1989. Ten Undergraduate students of Frostburg State University committed themselves to the preservation of the ideals they recognized as being common among them. The Alpha Chapter of Kappa Chi Kappa had become a reality.

The Brothers sought a bond likened only to that experienced in true brotherhood by establishing a regime wherein personality and individualism were not sacrificed. Acceptance of the differentiation of individuals’ character became primary to the experience the organization offered. Kappa Chi Kappa was from the start an organization committed to the preservation of the individualism felt by all members. The Fraternity learned that the maturing process need not involve the dissolution of the character of the individual.

They were officially recognized by Campus on January 21st, 1992. The Chapter at the time had 32 Brothers (founders – Delta Class) and a cumulative GPA of 2.6.  They came on campus to “affiliate their local fraternity with a national frat.”  This was written out on the petition form that was required by campus.  After we became an official Fraternity on Campus they began to research national Frats that were non-sectarian and prided themselves on individuality.  Upon this search they came upon Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity.

Pi Lambda Phi looked at Kappa Chi Kappa and liked what they saw.  Their finances were in order, the men in the Chapter were of excellent character and upon the values that Pi Lam hold dear.  They began the colonization period and on April 23rd, 1993 the Maryland Kappa Chi Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity became a reality.
